07/11/2021 -  NCBC Meeting Monday night: Chasing Cycling History - the St. Augustine University Cycling Team

Thanks for participating in today's NCBC Summer Rally!  We had just over 200 registrants and the weather, while warm, was mostly dry (there was a brief shower on the 10K route).  I'll be updating the NCBC membershp database in the days ahead, but I wanted to let you know we have an intersesting meeting coming up tomorrow (Monday) night!  Namely:

Chasing Cycling History - the St. Augustine University Cycling Team

Monday, July 12, 2021 at 7:00 PM via Zoom

Please join us on Monday, July 12, 2021 for a truly special presentation from the St. Augustine University Cycling Team.  In April 2020, SAU launched the first HBCU (Historically Black College & University) cycling team through its School of Business, Management & Technology.  Since then, the Team has risen to great acclaim in the national media, from Bicycling Magazine to CNN and VeloNews.

SAU Cycling sees their mission as increasing diversity in collegiate cycling (they compete in the same collegiate cycling division as the teams at UNC and NC State), inspire and help other teams get started, and honor the legacy of Major Taylor, America's first global cycling superstar.

Please join us as we hear from SAU Cycling coaches and riders about the team's evolution, its challenges, and its hopes for the future. And more importantly, it is an opportunity to learn how the Triangle cycling community, blessed with vibrant cycling clubs, successful bike shops, and infuential organizations, can become more inclusive in its efforts to promote and grow the sport.

Please join us for this very special presentation by SAU Cycling - Chasing History!

About the SAU Cycling Team: Founded in April 2020, the team made history as the first HBCU collegiate cycling team.  Consisting of 12 riders, coaches, and staff, SAU Cycling Team is a USA Cycling-registered collegiate club that competes in the Atlantic division against dozens of other schools in the Southeast. In addition to local support from SAU alumni and the Oak City Cycling Project, they have garnered  sponsorships from well-known cycling brands such as Canyon, Fizik, Castelli, and others.

I hope I'll see you on the Zoom call!
